Pull! Clay Pigeon Shooting

Have you ever had a really good idea? No, me either. I thought I had when I suggested going clay pigeon shooting, but, as it turns out, it wasn’t my wisest moment.

Yesterday, we headed out into the middle of Bedfordshire to see what this activity is all about. I thought that this would be a fun day out for two reasons:
1. I like to exercise and this, I thought, would be a different way of working my muscles;
2. The idea of dressing up in tweeds and walking about with a gun, without actually killing anything (I’m not down with that) would be very Downton Abbey;
Next time I think like this just shoot me!

It was a beautiful course and there were a lot of lovely tweeds walking around. But, clay pigeon shooting is really difficult. First of all, you have to have serious strength to lift the gun (I have no upper body strength) and then you have to put up with the pain of the gun kicking back into your collar bone after you’ve fired it.

If you are naturally good at this and have the technique then hats off to you. I just couldn’t hit the clay and then I lost my patience with the whole idea. The cold, wet weather didn’t help.

I don’t think it’s a real calorie burner (I’ll just continue to run and exercise the muscles that I have) and it isn’t a relaxing hobby so I’m not sure that I’d try it again, but at least I gave it a go for an hour.
